Luther Thorne Parents Threaten to Pull Children From School

Parents of children at the Luther Thorne Memorial Primary School are upset with some threatening to pull their children from the school due to the environmental issues.

A number of parents this morning turned up at the school to vent their frustration over what they say is the poor handling and communication about the situation there.

A large number of teachers again turned up late for a second consecutive day in apparent protest over the environmental conditions.

Parents attended an emergency meeting last evening to discuss some of the issues which they say include mice and bird droppings, mold in classrooms and structural issues.

Some parents said the environment has been making their children extremely sick and want action taken to address the issue.

President of the Luther Thorne School PTA, Nathaniel Boyce said the situation has be ongoing for years and he remains hopeful the Ministry will address the matter.

Meantime, Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Education, Gaynelle Marshall says environmental testing is being conducted at the school.

She added that the school will remain open for classes and a meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow where officials of the Ministry will brief teachers and hear their concerns.
