It’s estimated that last week’s island-wide power outage may have cost the country more than six million dollars in lost productivity.

Meantime, government is being accused of inadequately regulating the lone electricity distributor, Barbados Light and Power Company.

Economist Jeremy Stephen speaking on VOB’s Down to Brasstacks call-in program said such power blackouts can have severe impacts on productivity.

Meantime, also speaking on the Brasstacks program, attorney at law Tricia Watson, was again highly critical of government’s regulation of the power company.

Miss Watson, one of the lead intervenors in the rate hearings into the company’s request for a rate hike, believes the company is failing to adequately reinvest some of its earnings into ensuring the resilience and reliability of the electricity grid.
