Minister of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy, Adrian Forde highlights the importance of the development of the marine resources to address the negative impacts on ocean life.
Mr Forde spoke at the opening session of the nineteenth Session of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission, WECAFC at the UN House in Hastings.
The session was attended by 80 persons from WECAFC member delegations, including: Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, European Union, France, Guatemala, Jamaica, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States of America, Venezuela including 11 partner organizations.
The Minister stated that the world is facing crises of the sea, these include; pollution, increase sea levels, acidification of the sea and now the increase temperatures.
He says the seaweed or sargassum is a negative reaction to the pollution of the ocean.
He called for a global sensitization drive on biodiversity and protection of the marine environment.
