Sick-Out by CAL Pilots Disrupts Flights

Caribbean Airlines confirms that its operations have been severely affected by a sick-out by pilots.

A statement from the airline says its teams are working to manage and update its operational schedules following severe flight disruptions yesterday, August 20th, due to a high volume of sick calls from pilots.

The airline adds that it is working on recovery flights for displaced passengers of cancelled services.

The airline states that some international and domestic flights for today are still impacted and that the Reservations Service Centre is working to contact all affected customers.

Caribbean Airlines advises customers that if their flight is cancelled, there is no need to head to the airport until the airline contacts them with information about their new flight date and time.

The statement listed a significant number of flights for today that had been cancelled though some limited service was still running.

Meantime, when Starcom Network News visited the Grantley Adams International Airport this morning some passengers told of being stranded there since the early hours of yesterday.

Two Barbadians said they had been at the airport since 2am on Sunday and that the situation has left them frustrated.

Guyanese national Doreen James also shared her experience.

Caribbean Airlines representatives at the Grantley Adams International Airport declined comment.

The airline was this morning granted an injunction by the Industrial court in Trinidad and Tobago to block the Pilots Association and its members from participating in the industrial action.

They have been ordered to report for duty as rostered.
