Education Minister Confirms Child Assaulted at Frederick Smith Secondary

Minister of Education, Kay McConney, has confirmed that the police are investigating a case where a female student of the Frederick Smith Secondary School, in St. James, was allegedly assaulted on the school compound yesterday.

The incident resulted in the school being closed today while education officials met with teachers and staff at the school and representatives of teachers’ unions.

Miss McConney spoke to journalists following the almost four hour long meeting.

Meantime, President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Rudy Lovell, also speaking to journalists after the meeting spoke of assurances given by the ministry with regards to security at the school.
