Sugar High

Sugar High

The 2023 Barbados sugar harvest is on track to produce up to seven thousand tonnes, well in excess of the roughly five thousand tonnes produced last year.

That’s the assessment of Agriculture Minister, Indar Weir, with the harvest due to conclude in just over a week’s time.

Mr. Weir credits production improvements for the increased output.

Meantime, with the sugar industry to be privatised as government plans to end its subsidy and exit the sector, Mr. Weir indicates a major announcement is imminent.
