Unionised staff at Bridgetown Duty Free went on strike today in a pay dispute that is now before the Labour Department for mediation.
The retail store’s staff who are represented by the Barbados Workers Union were off the job at several locations including Broad Street, Holetown, Worthing and at the airport.
The dispute centres on what the union and staff see as a breach of agreement.
BWU General Secretary, Toni Moore, met with employees at the Bridgetown store and later told journalists she hopes the matter can be settled in talks at the labour department.
Talks were scheduled for this afternoon at the Labour Department.
Miss Moore voiced concern over the tone of the previous talks with the company.
