Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has told world leaders the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are in need of major reform and she wants a new global financial aid deal for nations.
Miss Mottley, addressing the Climate Implementation Summit in Egypt, called for new global financing models to help nations cope with a range of challenges including climate disasters.
Miss Mottley wants a provision in debt agreements to freeze repayments by states that are hit by disasters similar to the arrangement Barbados has in place.
She also proposes that companies donate a percentage of their billions of dollars in profits to a fund to assist vulnerable countries.
