Parents of Autistic Children Want Help from Private and Public Sector

Parents with autistic children are appealing to both the private and public sectors for funding to provide recreation for children with the condition and support for their guardians.

Sharon Walker a parent of an autistic child yesterday held an event sponsored by C.O.Williams and other organizations where 10 autistic children could spend the day at Pirate Inn relaxing with their families.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Walker asked the private sector to assist with funding for more recreational activities and also appealed to the government to put a fund in place to assist parents and guardians who have autistic children.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey who was also present at the event explained that plans are underway to secure funding for guardians of children with disabilities.

Mr. Humphrey also stated that legislation focusing on the betterment of people with disabilities is underway.

The Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs said the legislation had been informed by people with disabilities so it can focus on suitable decisions for them.
