Barbados Grabs Gold and Bronze on Final Day of Commonwealth Games

Barbados has grabbed gold and bronze in the women’s and men’s 400 meters respectively at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Sada Williams slammed the field and smashed the game’s record to win gold in women’s 400 meters, the first time a woman has run under 50 secs at the games.

Sada spoke about her victory.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has Tweeted her congratulations to the pair.
Her Tweet said – “What a race! A Games record winning run for Sada Williams to take home the gold medal for Barbados in the Commonwealth Games W 400m Finals! Two finals, two medals in the bag!”

Meantime, her compatriot Jonathan Jones in the race a little earlier won the bronze.

In an earlier Tweet Prime Minister Mottley had stated:

” I am so happy to see Jonathan Jones win the bronze medal in that Commonwealth Games men’s 400 meters Finals. I’m certain all of Barbados feels the same way! Congratulations Jonathan!”

Earlier this week Shane Brathwaite won Barbados’ first medal of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Clocking a season’s best time of 13. 30 seconds the 32-year-old won the silver medal in the 110 meters hurdles.
