The new minister of health and wellness, Ian Gooding-Edghill, promises an overhaul of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital including a new board, better customer service and a more patient-centred focus.
The health minister was speaking on VOB’s Down to Brass Tacks call-in program.
He said he plans to meet shortly with the new board that will soon be announced and a key focus will be a more commercial approach.
He says a new patient relations service concept will revolutionise service at the QEH.
This includes fixing some of the problems at the out-patients clinic.
The health minister also weighed in on the ongoing debate over the increased tax on sweet drinks.
He said that a Barbados report contained alarming data in relation to the high prevalence and the rate of deaths from chronic non-communicable diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure and urgent action is required.
