Promoters fuming over directives

There’ll be no curfew on Christmas Eve night as government has made only minor adjustments to its covid-19 emergency measures in the new directives that take effect today.

In addition, 30 people are now allowed to attend a lime instead of 25.

Despite pressure from the business sector to fully reopen the economy and completely remove the curfew, government appears to have taken the advice of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners who urged a cautious approach especially due to the threat of the new Omicron variant.

BAMP’s acting President, Dr Adanna Grandison, is generally pleased with the new directives.

She sees the ease in the curfew on Christmas Eve as an opportunity for Barbadians to enjoy Christmas but hopes people continue to follow the health protocols.

But, event promoters say they are extremely disappointed that the entertainment and events sector remains shut down.

President of the Entertainment Association of Barbados, Rudy Maloney, tells Starcom Network News that there appears to be inconsistency in how the directives are applied.

He says players in the sector are extremely unhappy.

Orlando Newton, CEO of Nouvelle Vie Entertainment and Ticket Pal Caribbean spoke of growing hopelessness among those who depend on entertainment to earn a living.
