Pause on Government’s new planning regulations

Government is putting on hold for the time being the part of new planning regulations that might force homeowners to vacate their houses while major renovations are being carried out.
That provision forms part of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill 2020, passed in the Senate last week which requires the homeowner to obtain an Occupancy Certificate from Government’s Planning Department before they can occupy their home after renovation work has been completed.
There has been outcry from the public on social media about the new provision.

And today on Voice of Barbados’ Getting Down to Brass Tacks call-in program, Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Investment, Marsha Caddle, announced that government has decided to delay implementation of some aspects of the new laws to allow for them to be properly explained to the public.
