LIAT employees complain of being laid off without pay || NUPW calls on the Barbados Government to address issue

Some Barbados-based employees of regional airline LIAT complain they have been laid off for three months without pay and have recently been told they will be out of work for a further three months.

And they are seeking answers from the Barbados government, the majority shareholder of the Antigua-based intra-regional carrier.

The National Union of Public Workers met with some of LIAT’s pilots this morning and the union’s general secretary Delcia Burke explained to Starcom Network News the workers’ dilemma.

Ms. Burke says the NUPW tried unsuccessfully for more than a year to get LIAT to discuss the concerns of the Barbados staff. She believes it’s time for the Barbados government to intervene.
