BPSA: Czar’s stance too extreme

Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Associaton, Edward Clarke, is suggesting that government undertake a more phased approach towards the closure of businesses found in violation of the COVID-19 protocols.
This follows last evening’s announcement from government COVID-19 Czar, Richard Carter that a Monitoring Unit would shutdown businesses found in breach of the safety protocols.

Mr. Clarke told Starcom Network News that while he agrees some people have not been observing the protocols, he found Mr. Carter’s comments to be extreme.

At the same time, Mr. Clarke also tells Starcom Network News that there is a need for Barbadians to follow the protocols so as to avoid the country retuning to the initial lockdown.

Meantime, some bars, nightclubs and restaurants on both the south and west coasts are seriously considering closure during the pandemic period because staying open makes little sense due to the covid-19 restrictions on crowds.
Fred Hoyos Owner of Jamestown Bar in Second Street, Holetown, says closure after this weekend seems certain.

Managing Director of McBridge’s in St. Lawrence Gap, Peter Laurer, says they’ve had to undertake a review of the cost structures.
