Barbados Records First Homicide of the Year in Worthing Shooting

Barbados has recorded its first homicide for the year after a man was shot and killed in the area of Worthing, Christ Church, on Friday night.

The Barbados Police Service confirmed that officers at the Operations Control Room received a report at approximately 7:37 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, of gunshots being heard in the area of Worthing Beach. Police responded promptly and, on arrival, discovered the lifeless body of a male lying on the beach.

Medical assistance was immediately requested. A medical doctor later attended the scene, examined the body, and pronounced the man dead.

The scene was secured as investigators began enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of relatives.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

The Barbados Police Service is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
