Convicted murderer Raheem Travonte Barnett has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of killing O’Neill Chase.

Barnett, of Regency Park, Christ Church, was sentenced yesterday by Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the No. 4 Supreme Court, who described him as a danger to society.

The court heard that Chase was shot twice in the head at close range with an illegal firearm on a public road in August 2019. He later died from his injuries in October that year. The judge noted the attack was unprovoked, carried out in a public place, and placed law-abiding citizens at risk.

After accounting for delays in the case and the more than six years Barnett spent on remand, the court ordered him to serve the remaining 33 years and 107 days.

He was also directed to undergo anger management, developmental, and psychological therapy programmes while in custody.
