The Barbados Consumer Empowerment Network is taking the Ministry of Educational Transformation to task over its plan to visit vendors near schools to encourage them to sell food items that comply with the National School Nutrition Policy.
Its Executive Chairman, Maureen Holder, believes that recent statements made by the Minister constitute a policy overreach and that the rights of vendors must be defended through law, fairness, and coherent policy.
She says the school policy is compulsory within the school compound and accuses the Ministry of imposing a rule that does not apply to vendors outside of schools.
