The Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners is raising concern about the growing number of unvaccinated individuals, as the region reports an increase in measles cases.
This comes on the heels of weekend warnings from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, urging Barbadians to take all precautions to prevent the spread of measles after the Region of the Americas which includes Barbados, lost its measles-free certification.
President of BAMP, Dr. Lynda Williams, says while there are no known cases of measles in Barbados, falling vaccination rates significantly increase the risk of infection, particularly among children.
Dr. Williams is also encouraging doctors to remain vigilant, be alert to common symptoms, and conduct the necessary testing if patients present with any signs of the disease.
