Government defends the CARICOM Free Movement of Nationals Bill stressing that it seeks to address the declining population crisis and other social issues affecting Barbados.
The bill, aims to fully implement the free movement of nationals from participating CARICOM member states, allowing them to reside and work indefinitely without permits.
Minister of Home Affairs and Information Wilfred Abrahams reminded the House that the island has a declining and aging population, with death rates surpassing birth rates, making long-term national planning difficult.
Mr. Abrahams criticized the opposition of peddling with wild accusations over the legislation
Meantime Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne questioned why the Freedom of Movement Bill was rushed before the Parliament over the Citizen and Immigration Bills
