King’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim was once again compelled to sign bail for one of his clients today, after she was unable to provide a surety as expected.

Twenty-nine-year-old Afiya Akilah Asher Mounter of Nicholls Road, Seaview, St. James, returned to the Holetown Magistrates’ Court, where she is charged with assisting a fugitive, her partner Kishon Thomas, between May 2 and July 12.

On Wednesday, Thomas’ mother, 61-year-old Veronica Caroline Bascombe, his brother, 41-year-old Jervairne Thompson, and Mounter were each granted bail in the sum of $40,000.

Mr. Pilgrim had initially posted bail for all three to prevent them from being remanded by Magistrate Wayne Clarke, with the understanding that they would return with suitable sureties at their next court appearance.

While Bascombe and Thompson were able to secure sureties and are scheduled to return to court on November 11, Mounter was unsuccessful. As a result, Mr. Pilgrim once again acted as her surety to ensure her release.

Mounter is expected to reappear in court on Monday.
