A 24-year-old customs officer has been granted bail in the sum of $5,000 after being charged under the Corruption Act.

Fadesha Fiann Howard, of #21 Jackman’s Development, St. Michael, is accused of soliciting $300 from Kyle Haynes on May 26, while assigned to the “C” shift of the Customs and Excise Department at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

The money was allegedly requested as a reward for allowing Haynes to avoid paying the required duties on imported goods.

Howard is also facing a second charge: that, being a customs officer, and without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, she engaged in wilful misconduct amounting to an abuse of public trust.

She allegedly failed to record the $300 duty payment from Haynes in the Customs receipt book, also on May 26.

She appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘F’ Court this morning. Howard was not required to plead to the indictable charges. She was represented by King’s Counsel Michael Lashley and is scheduled to return to court on August 20, 2025.
