After spending three hours outside, classes at Hillaby/Turner’s Hall, St. Thomas were cancelled for the day following the removal of a dead animal from the school compound shortly after noon.
Students, teachers, and staff had been prevented from entering the classrooms since morning drop-off. The Sanitation Service Authority later arrived to remove the carcass and restore safe conditions.
Despite initial plans to resume classes after the lunch period, the lingering pungent odor and concerns from wary students led to the decision to close the school for the remainder of the day.
Frustrated teachers expressed concern over the disruption to end-of-term examinations and the challenge of supervising students outdoors for an extended period.
