The price of eggs and chicken in Barbados is likely to increase in coming months due to the increase in the cost of imported hatching eggs.
One of the main local suppliers of broiler and hatching chicks to poultry farmers has issued notice dated January 20th, informing their customers that effective March 4th, the price of broiler, layer and specialty chicks as well as Turkeys will increase.
Managing Director of Gale’s Agro Products, Barry Gale, explained to Starcom Network News that the bird flu outbreak in the US has forced them to seek new and more expensive sources for the hatching chicks they import.
He stresses that it’s a matter over which they have no control.
CEO of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, says as a result increases in the price of local poultry are likely.
