A lightning strike is believed to have hit a tree that fell on a passing car at Black Rock, St. Michael this morning, injuring the female driver.

The police say the incident happened about 10:40 am.

The women, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was driving along Black Rock road and in the area of the old KFC building when a casuarina tree fell on her car.

She suffered minor injuries and was treated by ambulance service paramedics.

The road was impassable, at least temporarily, and motorists were being advised to avoid the area.

A security guard who was working at a nearby fitness gym witnessed the incident.

He says it was a very close call and the motorists and others could have been badly injured.
