One person is dead following a house fire in the early hours of the morning.

Police say the fire occurred at Westmoreland, St. James at the premises of a house with a shop attached. They received the report of the fire at 2:06 this morning.

Having responded, they were informed by fire personnel that there was a  body inside the building. Three fire tenders responded and have extinguished the fire. The premises were destroyed and no other property was damaged.

Investigations are ongoing.
