Government Track Coach Accused of Indecent Assault of a Minor

A former Barbados Olympian and current coach at the National Sports Council has been released on bail after appearing in court charged with indecent assault of a 13-year-old.

Fifty-four-year-old Samuel Garnes of Merricks, St. Philip, also known as Leo Garnes, is a Barbados track record holder, a government track and field coach, and a long-time operator of his own coaching camp.

The police say that on October 2nd he was charged in relation to an incident involving a minor.

He appeared at the District D Court today before Magistrate Debra Beckles and was granted bail in the amount of ten thousand dollars.

Garnes is to reappear in the same court on February 15th of next year.
