The 2023 Sugar cane harvest season is expected to begin on time.

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, Indar Weir gave that assurance when he made a guest appearance on VOB’s Down To Brasstacks yesterday.

Mechanical issues at the Portvale Factory brought production to a late start to the season.

However, Mr. Weir said new pieces of equipment have already been purchased to start operations at the factory.

Mr. Weir stressed that Government has spent millions to keep the existing plant functional and it will be up to the stakeholders to determine whether they will want to continue operations at Portvale or build a new factory.
