Yahandje and Shontae Are The New NCF’s Junior Monarchs

Yahandje Daniel and Shontae Alleyne-Clarke are the new National Cultural Foundation Junior Monarchs.

The two young ladies were the winners in the Junior Calypso and Soca Monarch contests held Saturday night at the Wildey Gymnasium.

Yahandje, the Calypso Monarch, performed ‘It Wasn’t Easy’. Speaking to Starcom Network she calls the experience humbling.

I am extremely humbled to be the Junior Calypso Queen of Barbados 2022. It has been years. I have been consistent. I have been gracious in defeat and I feel great at this point in time you know to be crowned the Junior Calypso Queen of Barbados.”

Shontae performing under the shortened stage name, Tae, triumphed in the Soca category with the popular ‘Party Nice Again. written by the prolific creator of soca hits Jason “Shaft” Bishop.

Shontae told Starcom News she was elated and surprised by her winning.

“It’s a lot to take in at the moment, because I wasn’t really expecting it because I lost hope at some point, but after hearing that I placed first, I was really happy. I was shocked. I was surprised and could not believe it all, but I thank God. It was a first . Any young person looking to join the industry, just stay true to you when you receive criticism know what is for you, take what is for you, and  leave what you don’t need, because there’s gonna be a lot of people, and you gotta know who you are as an artiste, you got to stay true to that and just keep going and never stop.
