A Sample tested by Barbados’ health authorities as a possible case of Monkey Pox has come back negative.
This has been confirmed to Starcom Network News by Minister of Health and Wellness Ian Gooding-Edghill.
The test was conducted by the Best Dos Santos Public Health Laboratory here in Barbados which now has the capacity to do such diagnostic testing.
Previously samples from two other suspected cases were sent to Caribbean Public Health Agency, CARPHA, lab in Trinidad and Tobago for testing and both came back negative.
Health officials say that the fact Barbados can now do its own Monkey Pox testing is very significant and testimony to the significant effort being put into boosting Barbados’ public health capacity.
