Youth Minister to Young Entrepreneur- Excel and Grow

Young entrepreneurs are being encouraged to thrive in their businesses and grow outside of Barbados.

This was from the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Charles Griffith as he addressed a gathering yesterday at the launch of the Entrepreneurial Development Training program by the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme at the Ministry’s offices in Haggatt Hall.

Mr. Griffith said he is aware that jobs aren’t always available for young people and it is difficult for Government to provide jobs for all. “But the fact is that government, it is impossible for us to find employment for all of the young people who come out of school. I myself would have told my children do well and look for a good job, isn’t always possible. But you will have taken a step to do something that is not normal in a sense for a lot of us to decide to own your own business, step out there and own your own business; and government through this ministry is providing an opportunity and you saw some of the highlights for you to excel and for you to succeed.”

The training will be online up until September and according to the Youth Minister the trainees will be given a certificate, approved by the University of the West Indies.

Mr. Griffith also urged the young entrepreneurs to be open to explore the regional and international market. “I would hope that you do not only see this country as your oyster, but that you’re able to transition in the region when you grow to a certain level that the business is at that level that you don’t see yourself only working with the market of Barbados. Look outside of the region and try to see how you can export if necessary. You start at home, you grow your business, you go to the region and then you go outside of the region.”
