Over 17 Thousand Seeking Housing In Barbados

General Manager of the National Housing Corporation, Ian Gill said there is a backlog of over 17 thousand people looking for homes in Barbados.

He made this disclosure while speaking at the St. George Speaks event, where residents of St. George were given a platform to air their concerns.  He said, “We have reached the stage where we would have done a back log, at the National Housing Corporation.  That backlog is up to 17,500, there may be some persons who just came in that we can add to that database so that total may go up.”

Mr. Gill stated that people with low income will have opportunities to obtain a mortgage.  “The country is embarking on a massive program,  the 10,000 houses for those persons who make $2,000 or less. The opportunity stands that you can gain a mortgage because houses will come from as long as the cost of $90,000 Barbados dollars. This is truly a dream and we go further, the Ministry of Housing is looking at the concept of placing PV panels, photovoltaic panels on those houses. What that will do is bring down the cost of your mortgage, allowing you to own a home for at least a miniscule amount of money.
