This country’s largest public sector union wants talks with government on some form of pay increase for public workers.

Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn speaking in Parliament recently indicated doubt about government’s capacity to afford a public sector pay hike.

Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Wayne Waldrond, tells Starcom Network News spiraling prices have eroded the spending power of state employees and while they are willing to be reasonable, they want discussions on the compensation package.

He indicated adjustment of allowances could be one option.
