Haiti Struck By 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Haiti this morning around 8 30 this morning.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) its epicentre was about 12km (7.5 miles) from the town of Saint-Louis du Sud, some 150km from the densely populated capital of Port-au-Prince.

The quake was recorded at a depth of about 10km.

The earthquake was felt across much of the Caribbean and The U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning after the quake..

Haiti’s director of civil protection Jerry Chandler, says he can confirm that there are deaths, but says he doesn’t have an exact toll as yet. Images on social media showed buildings reduced to rubble

Haiti is still recovering from a devastating 2010 earthquake which claimed nearly 200,000 lives.
