Call to scrap common entrance exam

A top university academic is calling for the common entrance exam to be scrapped.

Professor Joel Warrican, Director of the School of Education at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, tells Starcom Netrwork News, he cannot see any reason why in this day and age such an exam still exists.

He was also highly critical of the education ministries across the region for still having secondary school entrance exams this year despite the school disruption caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

Professor Warrican believes that, instead, there should have been a system of continuous assessment during the school year.
