End of Era at Montrose

End of Era at Montrose

Another locally-owned enterprise is closing after 37 years in business.

Montrose Super Market, located at Montrose, Christ Church, was started by the late Winston King.

The business was later taken over by his daughters Sharon and Deborah King, who have announced in a notice to patrons that the supermarket will be closed effective Saturday May 29th.

The statement notes the enterprise grew from a small mini-mart into a larger community supermarket with customers from across the length and breadth of the island.

It adds that the supermarket will be rebranded and reopened under new management.

Speaking to Starcom Network News about the closure Managing Director Sharon King, stressed that contrary to speculation on social media the decision is not the result of any financial difficulties, or issues with the government authorities or as a result of the covid-19 pandemic. In fact she expressed frustration about what she felt was uninformed speculation.

She insists that it’s a decision that she and her sister have been planning for a long time as they had set a timeline for when they would decide to step away from the supermarket business which they have the ability to do as self employed people.  It was also disclosed that both sisters would be pursuing other business projects.

Miss King did not disclose details of the plan for the premises, which they own, but Starcom Network News understands the property will be leased by another supermarket and rebranded accordingly.
