Further ease in COVID-19 restrictions

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced a significant further easing of some of the remaining covid-19 restrictions including a lifting of the curfew completely on some days and the shortening of the curfew hours on others.

Speaking during a live update after today’s meeting of the cabinet, Ms. Mottley noted that the COVID-19 numbers in Barbados continue to trend significantly downwards allowing for a relaxation of the directives.

Speaking just prior to the Prime Minister’s announcements Health Minister Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic noted that in recent days the positivity rate has been two per cent or lower.

Against this background Prime Minister Mottley announced the ease including the opening of gyms, beaches will now be open during the day and pleasure craft and water sports are allowed but party cruises are still banned.

She also gave details of the easing of the curfew and stated that while retail and supermarkets will remained closed on Sundays, restaurants will be allowed to operate and customers can once again enter fast food establishments.

Bars can open but no parties are allowed. Cinemas and nightclubs will remain closed and bus crawls remain banned.

Ms. Mottley also disclosed a plan that would allow vaccinated visitors with a negative test to enter Barbados with fewer restrictions.
