Vaccine rollout

Barbados Vaccination Programme has officially started with the Coordinator of the National Vaccination Campaign, reporting that about 30 people so far have revived the jab, including himself.

Major David Clarke speaking during last evening’s COVID-19 update press conference explained that the programme will be rolled out in a tiered system with static stations and mobile teams operating to vaccinate frontline workers.

He disclosed that gas station attendants, red caps, supermarket workers and hotel workers will be among the first to get the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

Meantime, Barbados’ Seek and Save initiative has covered just over 37,000 homes so far. Senior Medical Officer Dr. Anton Best says they have identified at least five COVID-19 cases in the community so far through this exercise.

Dr. Best says however, this is no cause for alarm.

Head of the COVID-19 Communications Unit, Ambassador Elizabeth Thompson disclosed Governor General Dame Sandra Mason has tested negative on her cOVID-19 test and she will be taking the vaccine in public.
