Verla re-elected DLP president

Verla DePeiza has retained the Presidency of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), this following a spirited election contest.
Ms DePeiza an attorney-at-law beat her challenger, the former DLP General Secretary George Pilgrim getting 346 votes to his 197 in the biggest voter turnout in recent times for the party.
Party sources tell Starcom Network News that about 800 people turned up to cast ballots at party’s headquarters over the two days of voting – approximately 500 people yesterday and around 285 people on Friday. Starcom Network News understands that’s about twice the number of people that normally turn out to vote in DLP elections.
The official announcement is expected to be made this afternoon during the DLP annual conference that commences this morning at 9 am with an address by Ms DePeiza.
