Caution urged on renaming Cave Hill Campus after late PM

Caution urged on renaming Cave Hill Campus after late PM

Senator Franklyn, Cave Hill Campus political science lecturer Dr. Kristina Hinds as well as Cave Hill Alumnus Dr. Leroy McClean, all speaking on Getting Down to Brass Tacks have expressed concern about the proposal by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley to rename the campus in honor of the late former Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur.

Dr. Hinds, speaking on VOB’s Getting Down to Brass Tacks call-in program which she was moderating, wondered whether such a move would politicize the campus.

Senator Franklyn expressed a similar view.

But Dr. McClean who served as a personal aide to Mr. Barrow when he was Prime Minister was totally against naming the campus after anybody, including Mr. Barrow. In fact, he didn’t think Mr. Barrow nor Mr. Arthur would like the idea.

Meantime, Starcom Network News understands that prior to the announcement, consideration was being given to naming the Caricom building in honor of Mr. Arthur.
