Barbados placed on European Union blacklist

Barbados placed on European Union blacklist

Barbados has been placed on yet another blacklist by the European Union (EU).

According to a Reuters report, in a document that will be published tomorrow, the EU names Barbados among 12 countries it says pose a financial risk to the union, because of anti-money laundering and terrorism financing shortfalls.

The list also includes Panama, the Bahamas, and Jamaica.

When contacted, Attorney General Dale Marshall told Starcom Network News, he’s shocked to learn of the news and says its nothing more than an attempt to name and shame Barbados.

The Barbados International Business sector says the latest European Union blacklisting could have a devastating impact on the Barbados economy.

President of the Barbados International Business Association, Julia Hope, is urging the government to stand up against the EU as the latest action could have severe ramifications for this country.
