BERT monitoring committee pleased with Government meeting all IMF fiscal and monetary targets

The social partnership sub-committee set up to monitor the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation or BERT program reports that government has so far comfortably met all fiscal and monetary targets under the IMF-approved plan.

Presenting the BERT monitoring committee’s report for the first quarter of the 2019-2020 period, General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, Senator Toni Moore, noted the positive performance including the recovery of the foreign reserves.

However, the committee is concerned about the pace at which capital investment projects are getting underway.

Meantime, another member of the monitoring committee, Akanni McDowall the President of the National Union of Public Workers felt that while the BERT program was sometimes painful, it was necessary.
