Better flood management and drainage control system for the west coast

The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification in collaboration with the United States Government today launched a flood management and drainage control project to address the flood-prone west coast.

The project, named “Ridge to Reef” includes the upgrade of culverts and erection of new drainage channels to manage stormwater flows to reduce flooding of home and business, and address other drainage challenges during extreme rainfall weather.

The US government contributed 5.3 million dollars to the project, and Barbados 1.7 million.

Speaking this morning at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project at Holetown, St. James, Environment Minister Trevor Prescod, praised the initiative as he outlined how the project will be rolled out.
