Port authorities on alert following reports of possible attempts to smuggle venomous snakes into Barbados

Officials in Barbados have issued an alert for ports of entry to be in a state of heightened awareness following reports that an attempt might be made to try to smuggle venomous snakes into the country.

Officials have confirmed the authenticity of a memorandum being circulated to agencies involved in security and inspection operations at all ports of entry, stating that information has come to the attention of the Barbados Port Incorporated that there may be an attempt to smuggle in the venomous snakes.

The memo dated June 12th from the office of the port’s Chief Executive Officer is copied to the Prime Minister’s office, the commissioner of police, the chief of staff of the Barbados Defence Force and the comptroller of customs, among others.
