The Spring Garden Highway to be officially renamed in honor of The Mighty Grynner

 

The Spring Garden Highway will be officially renamed “The Mighty Grynner Highway” this weekend, in honor of calypsonian and seven-time Road March king, McDonald Blenman, for his contribution to music in Barbados.

The announcement was made this morning by Minister of the Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, John King, at a media briefing.

Mr. King said it’s important to honor people like The Mighty Grynner, while they are still alive.

He is also encouraging Barbadians to join in the tribute at the signage unveiling ceremony which commences on Saturday at 4:30 pm.

Meantime, the Mighty Grynner, tells Starcom Network News he’s elated at the news.

The 73-year-old calysonian has been singing from the age of 11 when he was a student at the St. Leonard’s school and entered his first competition at the age of 22.

Grynner who is one of the 34 semi-finalists in this year’s Soca Monarch competition voiced concern about the direction of some today’s soca music.
