The Barbados Port is positioning itself to get a slice of the  Caribbean’s transshipment cargo business

The Barbados Port is positioning itself to get a slice of the  Caribbean’s growing transshipment cargo business.

This morning it put into operation, a third Gantry Crane valued at 24 million Barbados dollars which now allows the Port to handle any size ship.

Chief Executive Officer, of Barbados Port Incorporated, David Jean Marie says the aim is to be the trans-shipment hub for cargo in this region.

Mr. Jean Marie says the Port expects to earn about one hundred thousand US dollars in new business from cargo trans-shipment.

At the same time, the port is going green in turns of its energy needs.
