Police urge operators of party boats to tighten up their operating procedures

The police are urging more stringent procedures by the owners of party boats to keep track of who’s on board.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police William Yearwood was speaking to journalists in the aftermath of a fatal shooting on the Dream Chaser.

He says the force has concerns about these cruises.

Up to news time the police were still pursuing the suspects in the fatal shooting of 32 year old Dave Archer, security guard on the MV Dream Chaser.

The deceased, who was known as Jungles and who lived at West Terrace, St. James, was shot during  an incident on the party boat about 10 30 last night.

Police Public Relations Officer, Station Sargeant Michael Blackman says the boat was preparing to dock when there was a scuffle on board and Mr. Archer responded along with other security personnel.

The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in a police vehicle where he passed away.

Dave Archer worked for more than a decade as a forklift driver with Massy Distribution but had a part time job doing security work.

His mother Sonia Archer tells Starcom News he was good son and great person overall, heavily involved in community work.
