Access to bank financing and Insurance continues to be a major issue for local fisher folk and boat owners.
According to President of the Barbados National Association of Fisherfolk, Vernelle Nicholls, boat owners complain that they are unable to use their vessels as collateral, since this is seen as high risk.
Ms. Nicholls tells Starcom Network News that the association has to revisit discussions on group financing for her members.
The concern is shared by Minister of Maritime Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, who describes the actions by some insurance and commercial banks as unfair.
