Anxiety among government workers in advance of an expected new round of public sector job cuts.

This country’s largest public sector union, the National Union of Public Workers, reports a growing sense of anxiety among government workers in advance of a new round of public sector job cuts expected to commence in April.

Acting Deputy General Secretary of the NUPW Wayne Walrond says for instance workers at the Government Information Service and the Government Printery are concerned as to whether they will be retrenched.

He says the union has been receiving queries from workers, but he tells Starcom Network News that the union has not received any specifics on the issue from the authorities.

Speaking after a meeting with some public sector workers today, Mr Walrond said he is hoping the union will be properly consulted on any planned job cuts.
