Three Remanded Over Million Dollar Drug Haul

Three men have been remanded to Dodds Prison after appearing in court in connection with a million dollar drug haul last weekend.

They were taken into custody after a fishing boat was intercepted by the police and coast guard off Bayfield, St. Phillip last Sunday. The police say more than six hundred pounds of marijuana was found on board the boat. The total value of the marijuana is in excess of a million Barbados dollars.

Curtis Bascombe of Block 6D Wotton Terrace, Christ Church; Liebert Brathwaite of Hunte’s Street, Baxter’s Road, St Michael and Desmond Braveboy of Coles Close, St Philip, appeared today at St. Matthias Court before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch. Bascombe and Braveboy were represented by Queens Counsel, Michael Lashley, in association with Dayna Taylor-Lavine, while Brathwaite was represented by Neval Reid.

The three were not required to plead to the indictable offences of unlawful possession, trafficking, possession with intent to supply and importing illegal drugs.

The prosecutor objected to the attorneys’ request for bail, citing the seriousness of the offence among other things. The three were remanded to prison until their next court appearance on December 12th.
